Frequently Asked Questions

Why “Wacky Doula”?

When you live in Chilliwack, you gotta do the pun wherever you can! In all seriousness, it’s far easier to remember than my name, and it does capture my eccentric personality for those who know me personally. Clients who work with me note my empathy, curiosity, and joy when working with them.

What is a doula?

A doula is a person who offers a birther and their support system compassionate care as they navigate life’s most transformative moments. Birth and post-partum doulas are more mainstream, but there is a growing trend and demand for doulas specialising in gender transitions and end-of-life care. A skilled doula will adjust their tools and practices to best work for their clients.

When should I hire a doula?

Whenever you could use the extra back-up, I’ll be there! I’ve been hired before conception for a Birth Day and after the Birth Day has started.

What training and experience do you have?

I bring a unique and varied set of skills to the table that I’ve learned over the years.

  • Eldest daughter (if you know, you know) and mother of one child earthside, so far.

  • Certification in Mental Health First Aid, CPR-C, bloodborn pathogen safety.

  • Previously-established a career as a successful Intimacy Director/Coordinator in film and theatre, which allowed me to develop my business and communication skills in a fast-paced environment for the past decade.

  • Graduate of North America’s most comprehensive and holistic doula program at Pacific Rim College (anatomy & physiology, nutrition, bodywork & somatics, herbalism, acupressure, moxabustion, energetics, rebozo and birthing positions, infant feeding, ethical research, family support, and introductory midwifery for contextual purposes).

    • Shoutout to my wonderful cohort of fellow students and instructors, who are now a part of my professional network and resource community.

  • Experience attending vaginal and belly births; attended births in home and hospital settings.
